Delighted to be back racing 🙂
My first triathlon since nearly dying in June last year….!😬😂
I was feeling very relaxed before race day and confident that I’d have a decent race. Training has gone well over the past few months; even when in Scotland over Christmas – mostly indoor training!
The weather on race day was pretty perfect!
I had my usual average swim – I get lazy when swimming so tried my best to keep my tempo up and keep focused.
I felt very comfortable on the bike. I stuck to my race plan almost perfectly. It’s a tough 45km climb out and then usually feels like a tough 45km climb back because of the headwind but this year the wind was very kind to us. A bit of rain before the turn around was refreshing and very welcome.
I set off on the run feeling pretty good – as usual I tried not to start too fast and quickly got into a rhythm. The support along the route is always fantastic and is always great to be able to smile and acknowledge the encouragement from friends. As I headed out along the promenade heading for Bunkers Hill I caught a fellow Wingman athlete. My ‘come on Wingman’ words of encouragement sparked him in to gear, or maybe the fact he didn’t want to be chicked?!, and we ran in silence (except for me introducing myself after 15 minutes to which he replied yes he’d gathered from all the people shouting ‘Go Jenny!’….😳🤣!) for the rest of the first loop.
The second loop was tough. It’s always tough! But I kept smiling and I loved every second. I lost time up Bunkers the second time round; I should have pushed harder.
I had a great race and very happy to be back on the podium 😁
