99er Cycle Race 2015

99er Cycle Race

99er Cycle RaceEvery year I say I want to do more cycle races but never manage to fit them in. With the 99er cycle race on my doorstep I was determined to do it, and fit it in amongst tough ironman training weeks. Starting in % group was going to mean a high intensity 110km with surges, which might be a bit of a shock to my body.
The usual nervousness amongst the bunch was evident with the silence and concentration for the first 30kms. The weather was perfect and I was quite enjoying my race until about 90kms when my legs suddenly gave up on a tiny climb. The hill repeats from Thursday morning’s bike session was taking its toll! If only I’d managed to push hard to the top of the hill I could have held onto the bunch until the beast of a climb, Vissershoek, in the last 10kms of the race.
I still managed to finish 3rd lady and was a good day’s training!
