I had no idea how my legs would feel since it was only 3 weeks since Ironman but I was pleasantly surprised. My coach had done his best to make me rest after Ironman – not an easy job!
It was the most amazing setting for a triathlon with Table Mountain in the background. The swim was shortened to 750m due to the water temperature only being 12c. I was a bit dissappointed as it was over far too quickly! I got into a good rhythm quickly and was quite pleased with my swim for once!
The bike leg consisted of 4 laps of 10km. It was chaos! Drafting was inevitable with so many athletes, although I did try my best not to for fear of being penalised again!
I came off the bike feeling good. I eased into the run and soon found a decent comfortable pace. It was great to have support on the roadside from friends and the locals. On the first lap I could see Viv Williams not too far in front and knew I had to catch her. I slowly gained on her and over took her with 2kms to go.
I was pleased with how my race had gone considering it was a lot shorter distance than my body was used to.
