Relocated to the beautiful Slanghoek Valley, but a slightly different bike and run course from the usual Slanghoek tri.
I was pleased with my swim. I managed to draft 3/4 of the way and my splits for the 2 laps of the dam were identical.
I knew I needed to bike hard since I was a bit worried about my running. I’ve been doing a lot of mountain biking in the past few months and barely run since Ironman in September. Unfortunately my cycling legs weren’t feeling as strong as I’d hoped but I still managed to move up from about 10th out of the water to 2nd.
Not long out of T2 I was over taken. I didn’t have the legs to try catch her but I knew I could keep a constant pace. The turn around at 6km enabled me to see where everyone behind me was and fortunately I was able to cruise home without too much pressure and happily take 3rd overall.
